5 Fun Family Activities for Optimal Winter Break Bonding

Winter break means one thing. It’s time for family bonding activities.

Especially if you live far from your family, the holidays can be a special time of the year to get the whole crew together, catch up, and have fun. No matter how big or small your family is, it can be hard to find activities that everyone will enjoy between different hobbies and age groups.

If you need help organizing family activities for winter break, we’re here to help. We have plenty of ideas to keep you occupied and bring you all closer together. Check out our list below for five options that are easy to plan and will keep everyone smiling.

Enjoy your holiday happenings!

1. Take a Scenic Hike

If your family loves to be active, add a hike to your list of family bonding ideas. While we’re heading into winter, there still might be some great opportunities to catch fall foliage. To find a hike that’s the perfect fit, we recommend checking out sites such as AllTrails

From there, you can narrow down your ideal hike length, and what features you’d like to see such as water or cliffs. And so everyone is included, you can even find pet-friendly hikes.

Once you’ve selected your hike, be sure to bring durable shoes with traction, plenty of snacks and water, and layer up to stay warm for every condition. That’s why we recommend taking a peek at our outdoor apparel shop for men and women, which features solid gear such as moisture-wicking quarter-zips and adaptable all-season jackets.

When you get to the scenic view, be sure to take a family photo for the holiday card!

2. Stop and Stare at a Holiday Light Show

Some of the best parts of the season? The dreamy holiday decorations. No matter if you live in a big city or small town, you can likely find a local holiday light show. This is an easy activity, as you can usually drive through the display, or surrounding neighborhoods with festive lights.

To make it fun, pack cozy hot chocolate for the car, or walk around on foot.

3. Plan a Ski Trip

If your family can’t get enough of the snow, you must visit a ski town this winter. Whether your family likes to ski, snowboard, tube or simply enjoy the ski lodge amenities, a ski town offers options for every skill level and interest.

To bundle up and brace the elements, we highly recommend our men’s Mission Ridge Repreve Eco Insulated puffer jacket, or our exceptionally cozy sherpa styles, such as our women’s Cascade Eco Sherpa Fleece jacket

4. Have a Holiday Baking Contest

We all know that the best part about the holiday season is the endless amounts of incredible food. If your family is obsessed with cooking shows like the Great British Baking Show or Chopped, put your kitchen skills to the test this holiday season.

You can try a cookie-decorating contest, or make the same recipe with your unique twist on it. And, this isn’t limited to baking if your family wants to try this with festive appetizers too.

To eliminate the possibility of cheating, we recommend nominating a separate judge, like a neighbor or your social media followers to judge.

Whether you’re ranking based on taste, or presentation, make sure the winner gets a cool prize.

5. Host a Board Game Night

With chilly winter temperatures, sometimes all you want to do is stay indoors. But to avoid going stir-crazy, stir up some family-friendly competition.

Grab your snacks, get into your cozy crewnecks or hoodies, and choose your game of choice. For team games, we love classic Charades or Family Feud. For individual options, we recommend a good round of Monopoly or card games.

Make sure to keep the score so you can track it year after year to see who really comes out on top.
